STRUGGLE
FOR POWER
by Lawrence "LXR" Ryons
SEPTEMBER
2006 - Can we as black people really be
criticized for the actions that we have committed ourselves to
complete? Have we as black people really
have fallen into an intolerance of dealing with the everyday world,
while submitting to the everyday idea western hierocracy. In
this day and age, black people live in a country where everyday
is almost a competition of who can get it first? Who can last
the longest before dropping? Who can run the obstacle course and
dodge the mallets that fly their way? I believe that black people
are in a country that oversees them as potential bottom of the
barrow crawlers. Can it be seen that we are stepping on one another
to get the top while betraying and killing one another to not
fall flat. Is it true that black people are envisioned as being
so weak that some blacks that choose an alternate lifestyle involving
sexuality, and a percentage of black women have decided that the
real prize lay with the white?.
In Chris
Rocks Never Scared, he made a valiant point when he said that
when the white man get money, he give other white people some
money. When black people get money they go buy some rims with
it. This statement couldn't have been true, those words that drive
blacks decisions we most commonly make. Attempting to act like
our counter parts, we have been embroiled their likeness into
our life style and vomit on our own culture. We will fight over
the dumpiest situations and kill over the pettiest issues. For
example, hustling on some ones corner, stealing from a black man
who is old enough to be your grandfather. All the homicides that
are occurring are not just drug related; they're by people not
truly understanding the word disrespect. An ego and lack of understanding
will make a young black man in a white man's world trigger-happy.
It can be also be the fact that blacks only make up 43% of the
population, but 67% are in the penal system. Most of those blacks
are males, black males not white. The words of hearing about the
Homewood accident was, "can't we all just get along"?
The answer is hell no, not as long as these devils don't clean
up the crap that has been left for us to sweep up. Not as long
as we fight and then demand crap to happen after some no good
nigger & phony cracker have used another black man to get
what they wanted. On the flip side, we run to religion like that
is our only answer to everything, I do realize why religion is
important but why beg the creator to set us free? The creator
is not going to free us from this hole, we need to stop believing
that the promise land is when we die. We need to get up off our
knees and put in work, that is the only way to succeed that is
the only way to bring prosperity. But that may never change because
we worship man not the creator, sorry but that's the truth. We
don are churches of pictures of a man, a white man blue eyed and
blonde hair man at that. We believe these contradictions such
as why would the creator destroy a world that he created? Is it
due to the fact that man can't accept responsibility for their
actions? Is it due to the fact that man will kill this planet
for a dollar? Is it the fact that what happened in New Orleans
was ignored by man, and what happened was because of the natural
process of nature? We as black folks need to get back in touch
with the spiritual side of nature to grasp it's meaning better.
Truth be told, black people have trouble helping each other out
with power. But when that collection plate comes around are hands
go right in our pockets to grab some money. Instead of using that
money to feed that same preacher who is driving off in a car that
is better than your's and hollering God loves you; black people
need to use that money to invest in black banks, black communities
and black businesses. Don't get me wrong, the speaker should get
paid for his offerings, but should not for standing up in a black
church and speaking on how some ones sexual preference is evil.
Especially when the preacher maybe gay himself, a pedophile, thief,
and liar to the community with other gay members of the church
in the audience listening in hating themselves while the devil
lie.
To change
the subject a bit, our women burn the kinkiness of their hair
to so called have good hair, (thanks Willie Lynch) throw plastic
junk and stitch some poor Ethiopian girls hair to their scalp.
Complain about their full lips and nose while white women wish
they had lips like that, wish their butts where that firm looking,
wish they're thinking were like black women. But no, we some give
some dumb rapper money and she go get breast implants and buy
some blue contacts and throw some blonde weave in her damn hair.
This is disgusting, a total version of self-destruction all in
the name of fitting in for power, the whiter you look the better
you are off. In the United States, blacks are a minority but that
does not make us inferior, on the planet Earth whites are the
minority but that does not make them inferior. If you look at
beauty pageants, the whiter you are, the better you are off. How
can the minority of this planet be the most beautiful? They already
control most of the natural resources, there are only about a
five companies that control the music we listen to. They determine
what music gets played and how much airplay to give it. What's
killing us is that we believe that we cannot do anything without
them, we need their money, we need them because we are not mentally
reliable to complete task on our own. This is the danger area
of our relationship with them, we have are heads so far the white
man's butt, he has to take our heads out just sit down. But in
the end they just go with the flow, we are the individuals that
have the problem. We have all the resources available, from books
to videos to people with power and money and we don't do anything.
Analyze the situation like this; you take a group of people and
destroy them mentally by breaking them down and erasing their
history. Replace their history and independence with the slave
master and recreate a unity. Slaves are set free and perhaps can
finally be seen as people instead of animals, but the thinking
remains. First and foremost, anytime an individual let you free,
you are not truly free. You become free when you fight and you
stare the enemy in the eye and say I am free because I am human.
Suppose the Willie Lynch theory and idea that took affect when
our ancestors was being killed, whipped, and used as labor for
them is still being used today, just in a different format. Yes
the struggle for power is something, but for how long will the
prophecy last until we wake up. Truth be told we should only be
worrying about the individuals who are at least trying to make
a change, the rest of those niggers can remain slaves and that's
just the bottom. We don't have any more time to waste on people
who deny the truth and live in lie's, we need all of our precious
energy for the real test.
This is a message for black people; we are a doomed ethnic
group in America. We just sit around and just keep riding by while
are neighborhoods fall apart and we become even more ignorant.
Sports and rap is not the only option out the hood, we need lawyers,
doctors and black people who just really give a damn. We don't
always need good old fashion positive speeches we need cold hard
truth, nothing more candy coated. For years now we heard all the
positive inspirational speakers, take a look at our situation;
we need results no more speeches that lead to the basement.

COVERING
THE IDENTITY
BY COLUMNIST LAWRENCE RYONS
JUNE
2006 -
How much is truly enough and can we truly discover what it means
to be ourselves in the public eye? How many camouflages must
we switch into in order to be accepted by our peers? Is it the
fact that being our selves is too much even for society to handle?
If so can we truly become unique in our own way? Can we not lose
focus on the real prize at hand? That being acceptance by our
own ethnic group without causing an up roar. Everyday we as
black people awaken from the beds, prepare for another hostile
day to walk out of our homes, sanctuaries, our safe havens, and
our peace of mind to escape the life we pretend to sometimes enjoy.
With our alter ego's about to flourish in the wind, we dare
not to walk out of the church without placing the face that everyone
seems to understand more; the mask.
The
mask is a representation of our other self or another form whether
it is of a person or an animal. It allows an individual to
feel free because showing one true self will lead to unhappiness,
or it allows the individual to help them cope with the fact that
they are not as totally free, and this is what the world expects
and drives on. The mask allows us to fit in and become apart
of a selective group; though we do not represent ourselves in
that sort of fashion. It can help you become the starving
artist a person only wishes to become or, make you vulnerable
to outside attacks. For example, a man
dresses in business causal wear everyday for work, puts on a fake
smile and walks out the door. In actuality, the individual prefers
to be at a concert wearing leather pants with chains hanging from
his attire. Another example, a young man wants to learn the ways
of being a thug, when in actuality the individual prefers to be
in school but believes that popularity will push him/herself farther.
Unfortunately, the down side is that once we wear
the mask for so long, everything becomes about the mask and not
about the person wearing the mask underneath. The individual
becomes formatted to the situation, and understands that success
is how they represent and grab hold of the opportunity, not how
they feel. After a while the mask takes over and the person behind
the mask no longer exists, afterwards the alter ego finally walks
in the door of their sanctuary can be left boggled or bewildered
not knowing what to do as their personal lives begin to fall apart.
The outcome leaves the person with only knowing the mask, no real
personal identity or feeling but it is how they survive. This
can leave their soul scared for as long as the mask is worn or
if the mask is all they know.
How
does all of this reflect on the black man & female? Just
take a look at society and how it is constructed away from us.
Only a small percentage of the United States favor black people,
except the culture we bring to the table. Such as the ideas that
are enhanced through physical or a mental connection. We are hybrids
of mother Africa but we are the main one's speaking on keeping
it real, truthfully do we even know what real is anymore? Real
is not pretending to be something that you certainly are not,
though being real is realizing that in order to maintain a focus
and keep an eye on the prize, you have to reformat the understanding
of the situation and attempt to turn it in your favor. Can
we really blame slavery for our current situations? Take a moment
to realize a few things as we walk through this valley. Attempt
to be real with one self while taking a deep painful glance at
our great destructive ghetto. The ghetto in every part of the
United States of Amerikkka that house the walking dead, those
broken masks with no idea about self seems to only be moving on
barrowed time. These are the same ghetto's that cover radio airwaves
with popular booty bouncing songs. This can be directed to the
aftermath of the storm, the violent acts that drive only self-hatred
and self-destruction that flood our communities. Mask wearing
adapting people who understand that getting ahead involves more
than just self, it involves sometimes swallowing the spit and
keeping the eye on the prize. Have we all been wearing masks with
no sense of self for so long, that we are trapped in a matrix
like world? A world where warriors of Zion attempt to free us
from our current situation but our killed for their bravery? Yes
the acceptance taste well but how much sweetness do you need before
the creamy fillings leave a vomiting after taste in one's mouth.
The connection that we have to the inside world only go as far
as we accept the program, the idea that what we do is real, profitable
and even if it means other peoples death.
Sometimes
happiness comes from more than just accomplishing goals or even
love; it involves being happy with one. We have to notice
that it is only a mask and eventually we will switch to another
to fit or work with another group. Maybe one day the person will
decide to leave the mask at home, and decide to take a risk of
being displayed in some type of showing by the public. Friends
will be lost, their world will shatter, but in the end the person
will feel relieved that living a false life and placing a false
identity on them eventually creates unhappiness. If you ever take
the opportunity to look around outside and just stare at the crowds
of black people, ease your mind and allow the truth to be revealed.
Allow the real to take its action, and with it all prophecies
will show in time. Take a glance at the hair to the attitudes,
the personalities, the achievements and how they were obtained
along with personal image and ideas. All comes to light when the
darkest hour is amongst us at the most inappropriate times, a
catalyst for knowledge, combined with an untold wisdom and understanding.
Don't wear your mask too much; leave some space for a personal
self to shine through the crap of the world. Finally, don't wear
the mask to the point to where you become the mask, like the matrix
a person will never know when it has truly taken over.

BLACK
PARTNER CONNECTION
BY COLUMNIST LAWRENCE RYONS
MAY
2006 - Our social status can be determined
by our company, or the people we
choose to have in our inner circle. We use our own personalities
to determine which person we would we feel more comfortably with
on a day to day basis. From our own personalities we choose our
wives, husbands, lovers, or friends to socialize, evening dining
or enjoy an event. At times we step out of this circle due to
boredom, curiosity, a change of thinking, growth, acceptance,
or a sense of cleaning out the closet.
For
some blacks all we want is peace of mind, no
sucking up including, with no ignorant blacks to
blow their Neanderthal like personality traits in our direction.
The outside world can be cold, especially in America, with no
sort of close brotha hood or sista hood to help pull an individual
from the rubble, a mental suicide could become the future.
Truth
be told we need friends, not just counselors to vent and ask for
help, but to discover new worlds and idea's and help visualize
where we would like to be years from now. Being black means
that we as an ethnic group here in America, must establish either
one or the other and that we must stick together if we ever hope
to uplift from our present predicament. Trust is a factor of loyalty,
such as your word which is more solid than gold. We as an ethnic
group don't display any type of loyalty for one another unless
it involves, "What am I going to get out of this?" That's
the wrong thinking at the wrong time of being black. How about
the fact that a person's parents, if you had any or if they cared,
took care of you without hesitation, without regret and without
really understanding the choose they made. I'm not speaking as
if that happens all the time, because it doesn't. Take a gang
for instance; the members stick together through the toughest
times, display unconditional loyalty, even if it's for the right
or wrong reasons. They fight and defend there territorial grounds
without question, and for what ever reason their guns have to
be raised, they do it together, even if it means death. That's
a true partnership amongst fellow players, because all our seeking
a significant purpose or means.
This isn't a repeat of what's been said before, but attempting
to identify exactly who we are and what people surround us, and
how not to judge a book by its cover. We as a black nation
at times make it difficult for others to be accepted within our
groups, I feel as if we follow in our former slave master foot
steps and gain idea's from them in order to feel we are all in
the same boat. What we need to do is form a configuration
of who we are? What kind of culture do we as a black nation truly
descend from? How is it that over generations of self sacrifice
to preserve our nation we find that we have not truly progressed?
That will help us build a bridge between the knowing and the unknown,
develop stable grounds and walls to feel secure. All that includes
our company, knowing we are creates incite to the people who will
fit with us. Blacks no matter what need to stop looking down
on our own people just as the slave masters once did to us and
be come to an understanding. We become jealous if a person
is driving the latest Mercedes, shiniest biggest rims; jewelry
is the most expensive, instead of attempting to grasp the concept
of hard work and dedication for the prize. The point is that we
display friendship, but we destroy others with a different point
of view or uncommon behavior that doesn't fit the program. That's
a waste of thinking, an ignorance overload, and shows nothing
but a narrow mind with no doors.
Throughout our lives we find that company can bring the best or
the worst out of us. It stabilizes a sort of enigma that proposes
questions with errors and answers that we add extra effort into
but truly only care but so much about. Questions that we ponder
and doubts that frustrate us can be provided in our inner circle.
The dreams that show resolution and fears that show strength can
be provided in our inner circle. It is a break away from not being
accepted, not dealing with jealousy, envy, pettiness or hate.
To finally feel as if our personal being is complete and only
good times will roll over the absolute and give us further options
is like living in a dream. Good people bring good times; people
with major issues bring uncomfortable times. People need to feel
comfortable in order to accomplish goals and feel happy, and in
order to accomplish this task, one must discover how they personality
connects with other individuals. A few people prefer to remain
lonesome doves for as long as it will accomplish their primary
goal, to feel happy and not having to deal with that what if.
Becoming a loner brings easiness to the mind and brings about
change and sometimes peaceful periods from noisy eras. I feel
that everyone should take an opportunity to separate themselves
from the rest of the world and just attempt seek a quiet moment
or two, this helps with clearing of the mind and places your body
in a meditation like state. Become one with yourself and develop
self understanding. The company you keep reflects your image
along with there's, being black and having friendship means rising
above what is preferred to as the status quo of friendship and
seeking new and different relationships.

JANUARY
2006 - As we open up a brand new year in the human
existence, I can finally take time out to reminisce on my life
and how this was a life awakening year for me. But looking back
on all the current events, it all started when I decided to get
off my butt, and start a new beginning here in Pittsburgh. Now,
I had traveled to this city before in early January 2003, but
I never had the opportunity to really get involved in the interaction
with other people. I sat at home, working mainly, when my cousin
told me about this program called Job Corps in full detail, it
sounded pretty interesting but I didn't really see myself leaving
home to live in another city, because if you have ever lived in
Philly, a person can almost become engulfed in it's settings.
Time passes on and I finally declared that I was going to sign
up for the program in February I believe. Originally I was scheduled
to attend the program in West Virginia, but it was full and the
waiting list was forever for the males. My counselor at the Philadelphia
enrollment center in Center City, told me about Pittsburgh and
them having a college program, by September of that year, the
rest became history. Since becoming a temporary resident in Pittsburgh,
I've learned that walking around with a Philadelphia's Eagles
Terrell Owens jersey on around downtown; a person definitely can
get some pretty unwanted stares. But I've met some pretty cool
people, and have accepted the differences of the Burgh and its
occupants, I still think Septa is better than Port Authority,
and have handled the many faces very well. Last year I met Ashley
Woodson and I was offered the position of writing for him. He
thanks me more for not being afraid to express myself, but I thank
him even more for asking me to become his new columnist writer.
In October I had the privilege of being a part of history when
I attended the Million More Movement in Washington, and if you
have seen some of the pictures, I am the individual wearing the
gray hoody. For me, everything is looking great pulling into the
New Year, and as I promised I will leave the faithful readers
of Brotha Ash Productions
website with something to consider and feel well about.
In conclusion, this is my first column for 2006 entitled,
A
Dream Deferred and the Factors of Life
by BAP
Columnist Lawrence "LXR" Ryons
I
cry from deep inside my mind, sometimes the tears travel so far
back in time that I can actually see little Larry playing with his
toys and remaking the scenes of his favorite movie characters. Witnessing
my dreams being formed from my mother's room, to the stage of the
Gifted Artist back in March as the talents risked embarrassment.
Why do I cry, because it was the starting of my present mentality,
the dream of a performing artist and future scriptwriter. My
dream deferred had taken effect for the last few years as I got
older, wanting to be a wrestler, chef, physical therapist, respiratory
therapist, psychologist, and finally after a long deep conversation,
the performing artist dream will finally be realized. It's my
destiny; my purpose is to recreate life on stage, in books, and
in my own poetic words with the microphone. It took time to develop
this courage to take that step into the direction that's needed,
instead of walking into another uncertain decision. Now for a small
or large percentage of people, they don't either have that option,
have fallen into the depths of misguided solutions, or just haven't
had an opportunity to pursue their true happiness. In this reality
we live in, there is poverty, war, death, natural disasters, hate,
but on the other hand there is happiness, love, understanding human
differences, unity in communities, families, and black groups fighting
for a change. We ask questions about our own existence, our purpose,
and what is the meaning of life, and all these questions are brilliant
theories to ponder about because it can help us evaluate our dreams.
Here's a question for you, what is the purpose of human life, if
we die anyway? How can we discover the antidote to sustain our presence
on the earth, and is what we do have any real significant in our
after life. These questions can lead us to finding a purpose or
crashing in self doubt, because what's wrong with these questions
is that can a person really give a convincing answer. These sorts
of questions can become troublesome for many whom haven't approached
their dreams, and even those individuals that have found a purpose
may question their purpose. For instance, even though I have found
my purpose, does it really have a purpose in society; are these
so called jobs we slave over just to keep us occupied until death
at any moment? This is why I cry deep inside because nothing
is for sure, but we have to move on day to day because life doesn't
stop for no one. There is an inner circle that we cannot enter
until the lower stages of our life are complete, until we discover
the path and the doors to walk through. Then our dreams deferred
will become a reality, and then we can wear our masks knowing that
dreams are just a gateway to another reality, a purpose.
Don't wake
me, I'm dreamin
If I'm dreamin
Just let me sleep,
Don't wake me up until my dream is complete
If I'm dreamin
Just leave me alone,
Turn off the lights and unplug the phone
Christopher
Williams, I'm Dreamin, New Jack City Soundtrack
I remember
laying in bed dreaming about being on stage, as I once lived a dream
deferred, and my brain was interpreting it as being real until I
had awaken from my slumber. For blacks with their backs are against
the wall believing that dreams are better being dreamed, I understand
that it's tough figuring out how to get out of the situations you
are in now, but there is always a way. We don't have to think it's
just me against the world, we don't have to attack everything or
anyone around else. Its unnecessary believing that hope will not
circle our way, but we as a nation, small community, group, and
individual we must work for prosperity for our minds to become mentally
free. Even though all of us may not be in the same boat, that doesn't
mean we have to drag each other down because others don't want to
sink. Step out of your comfort zone and seek the knowledge, wisdom
and understanding of being black and powerful. We have the power
to change our surroundings, the power to drive this manipulating
entity called America away from our thinking. We as an individual
have the ability to grow smarter stronger, we as nation have the
ability to conquer the odds. Now, some of us believe that dreams
are just meant to draw us closer to an understanding that some sort
of success is in the physical world. People interpret dreams differently
then what others may see dreams as, and that is special because
each dream can mean a certain message for the individual. A person
can see them as a gate way to unknown territory, unexplored regions,
and create drive the imagination unto many horizon's. This is what
black people need to improve because it will give us a better eye
on the prize and how to obtain these necessary ideas, but we cannot
just get caught in the vision of the dream or we will just fall
flat. The dream tells us about purpose, understand the certain and
give the uncertain a chance to be shown. What if we didn't have
a purpose except for being a slave? What if we didn't have a purpose,
and there was no true meaning or understanding to how we are to
survive? Too many black people take things for granted and don't
allow new ideas to sink in before on, and truthfully we should be
the last ethnic makeup to drown in such ignorance. We allowed weakness
into our minds, we have allowed America's ideas to inhabit our black
minds, and that's where the faulty programming takes place. Sometimes
it feels like a nightmare the way our people act, but it's real
because it's in front of my face, it's something that can be related
to, it hurts, plus it's a physical reaction on both ends. It's man
nature to destroy, even if it will hurt the other person. Sometimes
there is no peace if there is no pain first, sometimes there is
no hope if there no pain, sometimes there is no profit without human
suffering. Is this all a dream that never ends, were black people
meant to become slaves of the Western world, European invaders thought
so? A few black folks choose to think differently, such as the new
Black Panthers, Rosa Parks.
It's was an
interesting year that brought the greatest moments, and the worst
moments such as Katrina where blacks seemed to have opened up their
eyes and seen how fast America is to respond to their cry for help.
I would like to say thank you to Luther Vandross for blessing the
world with his powerful voice, Richard Pryor for his brave stage
performance, Rosa Parks for her stunning stand for equal rights,
August Wilson for opening the world to another kind a great black
imagination. Also the Katrina victims and families, I hope you finally
find peace and fight for injustice in America's system. To everyone
I say goodbye, to all the other writers of Brotha
Ash Productions, good luck in 2006,
happy New Year, and PEACE!
