Some of us like to start the new year by stopping something from the previous year or starting something new in the year to come. If you are one of those people, place your New Year's Resolution on our list for all to see and once again, Happy New Year to all of you Brotha Ash!!!!
Cedric "The Entertainer" and Friends New Year's Weekend Comedy Jam featuring J.J. Williamson and Malik S. was a sell out and off the chain. My stomach was hurting from laughing so hard and it was just was I needed to bring in the new year. I have to shoutout Savoy Restaurant, WAMO 100.1FM, A For The People Insurance, my girl Chris and my main man, John Walker of Groove Productions for putting this event together. We even have EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS from a special performance that R&B singer Mya did at Savoy Restaurant.
You know Brotha Ash Productions always has the EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE for you that you won't see anywhere else.
Brotha Ash is PROUD and GRATEFUL to announce "THE RETURN OF ASANTE'". Asante' is a very well-known bartender, who works at the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty. About three weeks ago he suffered a brain aneurysm and as God would have it, he is doing great and expected to make a full recovery and return back to work at the Shadow Lounge. Justin Strong, owner of the Shadow Lounge, held a fundraiser in Asantes' honor to help with medical bills and it was a major success. Everyone came out to give their donations, love and support for Asante'. What we didn't expect was for Asante' himself to come walking through the door to join the party. It was the best Christmas gift any of us could expect. Of course Brotha Ash Productions was there to cover the whole event which included a special performance by the Hip-hop group Sol Sis and they were great.
Brotha Ash Productions Media and WAMO 100FM had a blast at Savoy Restaurant in the Strip District. It was great to reconnect with some familiar faces and meet the new people of Pittsburgh's home for Hip-hop and R&B.
Every time Hip-hop legends Slick Rick and Chubb Rock come to the 'burgh, it's always a great show. This time another hip-hop legend, Kwame, joined them at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood and it was off the chain. If you missed, you really missed a great show. I have to give a shoutout to Collabo Entertainment for presenting "THE OFFICIAL OLD SCHOOL HIP-HOP BLOWOUT FEATURING KWAME, SLICK RICK & CHUBB ROCK. This event was hosted by ED LOVER of YO MTV RAPS FAME with performances by my cousin the one and only TUFFY TUFF.
The Galaxy Lounge and Entertainment Center held an event where everyone came out to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns on wide screen televisions and it was nothing but a party y'all.
We had a great time at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture with Comedian Joe Torry. I have to give a big shoutout to N-MOTION ENTERTAINMENT & AFRO-AMERICAN MUSIC INSTITUTE and everyone that came out to get their laugh on for this great show.

THE BAP FAMILY IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY PARADE
The African American Heritage Day Parade was quite an experience. It was great to see a lot of family and friends as we passed out business cards, red, black and green necklaces and we even gave a way a few movie passes to some of the on lookers in the crowd. I knew so many people in the crowd that I was hugging and speaking to just about everyone I came in contact with because most of us grew up together. What a great feeling! I have to shoutout my BAP FAMILY, Dell, Angie, Lil Dude, Wee Man and Munch for holding me down because I could not have done this without you. It was also great to see all of the other businesses, artists and organizations in the parade as well. I also want to thank the African American Heritage Day Parade Planning Committee and everyone for bringing us all together for a very positive event. It was pouring down raining, but we still had a blast and I look forward to next year's parade when we can represent our culture.

Brotha Ash had the pleasure of being a CELEBRITY CHEF at the Celebrity Cookoff held at Benihana's in Greentree, PA. This was my first time being a part of the event so I was very nervous because I did not attend rehearsals like the other celebrities chefs, so I had to wing it. Thanks to Lynne Hayes-Freeland and others for letting me know that I would do just fine and I did. We had a BLAST once I got started cooking along with Corey O'Connell who attended the event before. I also have to thank Dell Saunders for holding me down with the photos. The Dave Thomas Celebrity Cookoff is a fundraiser that provides necessary funding to ensure that TRAC's services continue to be FREE to all children and families effected by foster care and adoption. I am looking forward to attending next year's event, now that I know what to expect. It was also great just being a CELEBRITY CHEF.

Blood Bank, a business unit of The Institute for Transfusion
Medicinesm, and the August Wilson Center for African
American Culture have partnered to address the lack
of blood donation in the African American community,
especially among those 17 - 35 years of age.
To address this issue, the two organizations have partnered
to create a multimedia campaign, which was launched
at an event on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at the
August Wilson Center, 980 Liberty Avenue, immediately
following Pittsburgh’s African American Heritage
Day Parade, the route of which ended at the Center. The event featured a youth-produced public service
announcement video premiere, a mixed media visual art
exhibition, a mini-documentary premiere, and a special
performance by national recording artist “Fantasia.” The free concert was phenomenal and she sang
all of her hits including a song made specifically for
her Pittsburgh fans. Later that evening at Club Mosiac,
she did a brief performance for her fans and danced
in the crowd. Fantasia also joked with me and
said that I better put her photo on my Brotha
Ash Productions flyers
and postcards along side the other celebrities or else. She will definitely be added without a doubt.
Fantasia will be checking out Brotha
Ash Productions for the
exclusive story and photos and you should do the same. I have to shoutout Emmai Alaquiva of YaMomzHouse

A
REQUEST FROM BROTHA ASH
CAN WE ALL JUST GET ALONG IN 2012?
I
usually don't get caught up in New Year's resolutions,
but I do want to share what my goal is for 2012. I
would like for us as a black race to come together to
be strong, black and proud of who we are. That is only
possible if we come together. Is
it possible for us as a black race to pull together, bury
the past, work together, and just get along - YES IT IS!!! If we come together and stop hatin on each other, stopkilling each other, stop talking about each other (well, that may be asking for
too much), and most important stop being "CRABS IN A BARREL", we can achieve
anything as long as we do it TOGETHER. Brotha Ash Productions is taking
a stand and putting it out there for all of our beautiful
black people to make the effort in 2012 to make this happen. We will continue to do our part by sharing our rich heritage
and being there for the African American community to
the fullest, but we are reaching out to you, (the community
and other black organizations) to let you know that we
want and need your help. It is possible and it is a reality. We are stronger together than apart.
If
you have any ideas on our we can make this happen, please
send it to BlackUnity@BrothaAshProductions.com because we want to make a difference in our communities. We
will post your comments for everyone to see. For those of you who are caught up in haters being against
you, remember what God has for you, no MAN or WOMAN
can take from you. Help
us bring our race BLACK TOGETHER one person at a time.
DO
YOU KNOW MAJOR TAYLOR?
In
the late 1890's bicycle races drew crowds that filled Madison
Square Garden; the biggest draw of all was Marshall W. "Major"
Taylor. Having become the undisputed black champion
of America. Taylor overcame racial segregation and intolerance
to become to one-mile sprint world champion in 1898, and
by the end of 1899 held seven world cycling records!
Why
is this important? The University of Pittsburgh's Center for Minority
health and Adventure Cycling Association share the goal
of encouraging people from all walks of life and cultural
backgrounds, including African Americans, to explore the
landscapes and history of America by bicycle. That
is why these two organizations are committed to creating
an Underground Railroad Bicycle Route. Throughout history
black people have used bicycles as a mode of transportation.
Both Major Taylor and the Underground Railroad represent
the struggle to freedom from slavery and the challenge
to elimate racial and ethnic health disparities. Visit
the Center for Minority Health @ www.cmh.pitt.edu or call 412-624-5665.
