(PART 2)

PART 2 - DMC AT SECOND CHANCE: When he made "Son of Byrd" from 1986's "Raising Hell" album, he was claiming his identity which he didn't know at the time. McDaniels is a shining example of a celebrity who is giving something back to the community. He sat down with the children at Second Chance and talked with them. Even though most of the children in the room were not born when RUN-DMC was at their peak, they knew a living legend of hip hop was definitely in the building sharing his own experience. "I have to sit down with the kids and say - What do you want?, Who do you want to be?, and how I can help you get there?", says McDaniels. He knows about raising a child because he has a twelve year old son who could have been affected by his adoption because of family medical history.

Being a celebrity isn't everything it's cracked up to be. I toured in Europe for ten years and was very unhappy. Adoption just happens to be my situation. I don't stand here in front of you as just a rapper dude, but a man of purpose and destiny. It doesn't matter how you got here, but it matters what you do now that you are here.

You guys have no idea what is awaiting you. You are winners - In this room, I see astronauts, doctors and lawyers. Everybody wants what Jay-Z has, but you have to find your own destiny and purpose. When I found out I was adopted, I put the breaks on. I said to myself, I'm going to do a record to let other kids know that their situation is no different than anyone elses. I went to Sarah McLachlan after hearing her song "Angel" on the radio to let her know that her song affected me and saved my life.

You should never start a book from Chapter 2, said McDaniels. He lived his life in Chapter 2 and now is reclaiming his career and life starting from Chapter 1.

In conclusion, their was a question and answer period after the session. DMC signed autographs and took photos getting ready for his perform at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum later that evening.
